The pretentious name had kept us away for a while, but enticement from OpenTable sent us straight into Sel de la Terre's Back Bay adventure and dinner was wonderful.
The waitress's suggestion to add an organic duck egg from the chef's farm to the house burger seemed odd, but everything else was spot-on. We had a variation of sole meunier accented with toasted hazel nuts and brussels sprouts that'll make you forget the classic and our date had a braised short rib that melted in your mouth with just a hint of sweetness in the sauce.

From the NYTimes. Popsicles were in fact named after dear ol' Dad and Twinkies were originally banana-flavored. But even harder to believe, there was a time when a Big Gulp wouldn't fit in the cupholder in your car!

Who knew there was anything good in Milford, CT? Turns out the beach wasn't anything to write home about, but this little restaurant on the green was great!

Running out of ideas for the grill? Mark Bittman has enough to keep the grill going all season. We think eating our way as far down as grilled peaches with bourbon would be a noble goal for a summer.

Turns out Monsanto's plan to rule the world by selling Round-Up herbicide and Round-Up Ready herbicide-resistant corn, soybeans, and cotton has an Achilles's heel: Round-Up Resistant Weeds.

Water Street, at the Harbor View. The sommelier made us laugh, but he was really a jovial man who meant well. And the food was excellent.

We like this site, because it is a blog/aggregator of other foodie sites. Only complaint: It takes at least two clicks to get to the actual article to read it.

The demands of the industrial food system have redefined "cooking" and the Food Network is turning it into a spectator sport... Nothing new. Michael Pollan says this will ruin us--his song for some time now--and he is probably right. "The skills are already lost. Who is going to teach the next generation how to cook?" And his recipe to cure us? Right from Hippocrates, paraphrased by the Food Network:
I have the diet for you. It’s short, and it’s simple. Here’s my diet plan: Cook it yourself. That’s it. Eat anything you want — just as long as you’re willing to cook it yourself.

The patio at S&P Oyster Company, by the Mystic Highway Bridge in Mystic, CT. They also make a perfect Dark & Stormy, made with Gosling's Black Seal and, the bartender promised us, Gosling's ginger beer.

We swear the waiter was German, which would make his thick French accent a complete affectation, but the food here was phenomenal.
Also, the wine, Ramsay Pinot Noir, rocked. If you know where to pick up a bottle or two, let us know.

Just came back from NYC, where the inner child went wild for this over-the-top candy store, the brain child of Ralph Lauren's little girl. More pictures here.

At the risk of allying ourselves with Dwight--really, it's just the beets that catch our attention--God, does this soup look good.

While waiting for the flight back from Christmas "vacation," we searched the ATL airport for a River Street Sweets store we are 98% certain used to be at Concourse B. Can anyone else corroborate that? And what happened to that franchise? Savannah is the best thing about Georgia, and these are the only souvenir worth bringing back--all the other knick-knack shops in that airport should get on the bandwagon.

Over brunch at Church this weekend, we liberally imbibed the best coffee ever. We're told it is Kahve brand, although they didn't tell us which of these selections they brew.

Not that kind, dirty minds. This is the best little seafood place on the East coast, possibly the world.
